Little House in Tirol

I found myself in a small village in Tirol for the holidays. It's one of those holidays that you always dream of after seeing so many movies with the happy and the crazy. We definitely had a crazy join us for Christmas but I won't go into detail. Hope you all had a nice holiday :)

Rainy Barcelona

While the rest of Europe deals with snow storms and airport closures, Barcelona is dealing with rain...and lots of it. It's been raining non-stop for a few days now and I'm glad I'm leaving just in time for Christmas holidays. Photo taken at Pl. Catalunya

The Penis Tower

Also knows as the Torre Agbar tower, named after its owners the Agbar Group, a holding company. Opened in 2005 at a cost of 130 million Euros. This 38 story building holds no major purpose other than office space and has become a recognizable part of the landmark. 4500 LED's light up the night sky.

Oh Christmas Tree...

The Christmas Tree seen at Glories shopping centre. Shops are generally closed here on Sundays but for the month of December they remain open for people to do their Christmas shopping. Going shopping when you're not inspired is the worst...I managed to buy nothing. Good thing I've still got a few more days.

Christmas is a week away!

Can you smell it? Christmas is only a week away and I have so much shopping to do. I better start now. This picture was taken last year when I was visiting my friend in Belfast City. This is the tree at Victoria Square, the big shopping centre.

Scooter invasion...

Taken this morning in Gracia. The traffic in this city scares me...partly because people don't know how to drive and don't really understand the concept of a red light. It's gotten really cold lately and as a result I have a miserable cold. Here's to a Friday night at home. Hope you all have a much better weekend than me!

Cheese and Wine

It's a holiday here! The day of the immaculate conception. As a result there were a lot of parties in town. I started the night by meeting some friends I hadn't seen in a while. What can be better than Cheese and Wine at one of my favourite restaurants, A Casa Portuguesa, with some great friends. They have the most delicious  selection of cheeses and a great variety of wine to chose from...not mention fantastic desserts (home-made). It's no doubt that this place if full to capacity every night of the week.

I later joined my friend for more wine before heading out to a party. Lady Gaga was in town last night for a concert (I did not make it to the concert) and then everyone made their way to the disco. More pictures from that will follow tomorrow.  :)

Let the shopping begin!

Tonight kicked off the official holiday shopping season. Most stores on the main commercial street, Passeig de Gracia, stayed open until midnight and of course all the Christmas street lights are up and running! There are also tons of freebies...everything from balloons to champagne. Get shopping!
*Featured in this photo is Hotel Majestic. Rumour has it that whenever Woody Allen is in town, this is his hotel of choice.

Christmas Market

Jesus is it December already? Where has this year gone? I guess it's time to start shopping shopping shopping. The thing I love most about Europe is this...the Christmas Market and everything that comes along with it including hot wine. mmm. These were taken last year when I was visiting my friend in Belfast City. A great place to pick out some nice gifts.

T is also for Tuesday and tulips...

This week has taken off like a roller coaster. I guess that's what happens when you have a busy busy weekend with no down time. But that's also nice to be up and about! Here are a few more pics from the weekend.

T is for Turkey

Thanksgiving is not really celebrated in Spain but we decided to have a spontaneous dinner with some friends last Saturday. The main star was this turkey.

A unique stuffing recipe.

Stuffed and brushed.

Turkey breast with gravy with a side of cabbage sauteed with chestnuts, sweet potato fries and of course stuffing.

Delicious carrot cake...

Do you ever buy cook books with the intention of cooking something out of the ordinary and expanding your culinary skills but in the end it ends up being an unused accessory in your kitchen? Well I've had this Jamie Oliver cook book for almost 2 years now and although I've flipped through the pages drooling at every recipe, I haven't managed to cook something...until last night that is. I decided to try out his recipe for carrot cake with lime mascarpone icing. A bit of work but very delicious! I'm also trying out my new app on my new iPhone4. Love the filters.

Ready to go in the oven.

The juice and zest of 2 limes. I love how the limes look...almost like the hair of a wet shaking dog. The smell is also very refreshing!
Mascarpone, cream cheese, lemon juice and lemon zest.
Presentation: lemon mascarpone topping drizzled over carrot cake with dried cranberries and walnuts.
